Spring arrived last week and that means Mother’s Day is coming up pretty soon! Giving the perfect gift for Mother’s Day isn’t always easy. But have no fear! Whether you are reading this to get ideas for your own mom, or perhaps your spouse, I’ve got you covered with my Mother’s Day Gift Giving Guide. I’ve compiled these top Mother’s Day gifts that any mom is guaranteed to love. I totally want all these presents myself, so I know they would be great to give to other moms.
I went about making this Mother’s Day Gift Giving Guide because we all know when asked what they want for Mother’s Day, nearly all mothers will say “Don’t get me anything, let’s just spend time together.” And while spending time together is a wonderful gift, Mom needs a present. Moms do A LOT. Every single day. This is the day to say thank you for ALL the things you do, both little and big.
If you are walking around your life being a decent human and living a productive life, chances are your mother taught you how to be that person. She also taught you to wipe your bum-bum. So, tell her

Gift Idea #1: PhotoSpring Digital Picture Frame
I can’t say enough good things about this gift. My family went in together and got this for my aunt a few months ago for her birthday. She lives at an assisted living facility and has downsized her house, and this digital photo frame lets her display a ton of pictures, with just one frame.
The big thing I love about the PhotoSpring Digital frame is that everyone in the family has an app on their phone, and whenever the mood strikes or you catch an amazing picture, you upload it to the app and send it to her frame, and it downloads to her frame on her side – with no effort from her at all. It just shows up in the rotation of pictures. We have it set to make a constant slide show. No need to worry if the recipient is technologically savvy (My aunt is 90!). The app lets you control the frame from your phones as well. You can set timers on when to turn it on and off, how long to let every picture display, and which album you want it to display.
There are three things to keep in mind about this gift:
- It’s pricy!! $$$ At $140 it’s probably best to make this a joint gift.
- You’ll need to be able to plug it in and set it on the charger. We just leave hers sitting in the charger and plugged in all the time.
- You will need WIFI at the location of the frame so that it can download the pictures your family members send to it. If a WIFI network isn’t available, you can still set up and download a ton of pictures to the frame from somewhere that DOES have a WIFI network and then later take it to the gift recipient their place. However, for the frame to work as intended and get new pictures without further effort from you, it needs to have a WIFI network to hook up to.
This gift was both easy and quick to set up. I was very surprised. I dread doing that kind of thing. However, this set-up was surprisingly easy. The set-up is best to be done by someone that is at least not terrified of technology, though the directions were super easy to follow. It was set up and ready to go in five minutes.
Everyone in my family was MESMERIZED by this gift. Seriously, I just sat back and took mental note of how many of these frames I was getting everyone else for the upcoming holiday season.
While this is on the expensive side, it was totally worth it. And when we split it up among our family, it was no more than any other gift would have cost.
Technical Notes
There are a lot of digital frames on the market for about the same price that
The PhotoSpring frame displays pictures in either orientation. This detail is important because almost everyone takes almost all their pictures on their phones, which display in a portrait position (think
For all these reasons, I can’t recommend this gift enough. I love, love, love it! So will your mom! As long as you stay in the PhotoSpring family of products across family members, the app on your phone will work for all of them!
Gift Idea #2: Spa Day
Moms will tell you not to spend money on us with something like a spa day. We will say that we just want to spend a day together with our family. But we are LYING. Who doesn’t want an afternoon at the spa?? Get the mom in your life a massage and manicure and pedicure. She will be thrilled. You can still spend the day with her. And then later on another day, she gets a spa day.

This is especially great for moms of small children. (As a mom of 2 small kids, let me attest… we are tired… send us to the spa…) Sometimes you need a break, you need silence and you need to feel pampered.
Disclaimer, this can be PRICEY! $$$
This is also a more expensive gift. I’m guessing after tipping the staff, you are looking at a $200-$250 experience. I call a relaxed wife and mother well worth that expense. Also, keep an eye out for deals. Tons of spas will run a Mother’s Day package or special. All you have to do is buy the package and then let the mom in your life schedule it when it works for her schedule.
Seem like an extravagant gift? I refer back to my earlier point, this woman taught you to wipe your bum. Call the spa, now.

Gift Idea #3: Family Photo Session
Don’t run screaming, this isn’t as big a project as it might seem. All you have to do is give your mom the “certificate” or idea for Mother’s Day. After she gets the gift, you can then coordinate the entire family on dates, locations and wardrobes choices. Chances are, most of the family is either gathered or spoken to on Mother’s Day, providing an excellent opportunity to put your heads together and nail down the details of the future photo shoot.
When you are ready to schedule the family pictures, here’s my complete guide to a successful family photo shoot. There are just a few steps to consider:
Find a photographer
There are tons of great photographers that will do a 1-2 hour session for family pictures. Find one that has a package you like. Most packages include the photo session and the photographer editing the pictures. Usually, after the session (a few weeks after), the photographer will give you a disc with the pictures, or upload them to a website where you can then view and download them yourselves. That way everyone can print whatever they want for their families.
The photographer can help you choose a location. If you have something specific in mind, that’s perfect. If not, the local photographer probably has a few favorite places that are “tried and true” locations where they prefer to shoot sessions.
Wardrobe Coordination
The photographer can also help you coordinate the wardrobe. They can tell you exactly what photographs well and what doesn’t. But do keep it simple. Everyone in shades of blue? White shirts with khaki bottoms? Just don’t tell everyone to wear red and then have forty shades of red in your family photos. Do take some time to coordinate the wardrobes. The photographer will know what colors and type outfits shoot well and which do not.
More than just a gift for Mom…
Another thing to keep in mind with this gift is that you’ll end up with family shots, shots of the kids, individual family unit shots, etc. You’ll end up with great shots for you as well as making the mom in your life happy. Also, think about all the people you can give family pictures and frames to for Christmas! There is a lot of room here for more gifts in the future. This is like the gift that keeps on giving!!
The mom getting this as a gift will absolutely love it. And that same mom will know that this takes both effort and time, and will truly appreciate that as well.
This Gift Is Worth The Effort
I totally understand that having any kind of photos made can be a huge pain. Add to that coordinating with your entire family to make it happen? Yikes. But this trouble is completely worth the effort. You will never regret having a lot of family pictures that have everyone in them over the years. Plus, having lots of family photos that you can later have printed and framed for MORE gift giving at a later date? SMART. Very smart. Think framed family photos for Christmas gifts…
$$$
This gift would probably run you around $150-$250 depending on your area and how long a session you want to run. But again, if you split the session among a few family members it becomes a totally affordable gift.

Gift Idea #4: Flowers
Lots of moms love flowers. Who doesn’t love flowers? They are beautiful and happy and make everything cheerful. But instead of spending the money and sending a bouquet of flowers that will certainly die within a week; get her some flowers that can be planted or enjoyed for the entire season.
Easiest Route
You can always get a potted plant or hanging basket if you want to go the easy route. This will require the least amount of input from everyone involved. Hang it from a hook and call it a day. Or you could simply get a potted plant or a small tree. When you present the gift to mom you can just put the plant wherever she wants it to go.
Manual Labor Route
If you get her a flower that needs to be planted in the ground, be prepared to either do that on the day you give the gift or come back to do it in the following days. If not, all you’ve given her is a chore to do and that’s not cool. If she loves rose bushes, give her a rose bush, but plant it too.
Let Mom Pick The Flowers
As an alternative, if you have no idea about flowers, but the mom in your life loves them, take her with you to the nursery and let her pick out what she wants and likes for her flower beds. She probably knows what will do well in her yard and what won’t, so feel free to use her as a guide. You’ll probably learn a thing or two about flowers while you are at it. And of course, take them home and plant them for her.
The older I am getting (not that I’m old!) I love flowers more and more. I love to plant them and tend them and watch them grow. I didn’t hate flowers when I was younger, I just didn’t feel like taking the time to mess with planting and tending them. But now, I love watching my flowers grow and taking care of them! It’s truly a wonder to watch! (I realize I sounded SOOOOO old just then… )
Price: Extremely Reasonable
Most flowers aren’t very expensive. This gift could be as small as $25 or you could easily spend much more. It all depends on what’s in your budget.

Gift Idea #5: Jewelry
Moms love jewelry. Most women, in general, love jewelry. And now there are so many online places where you can pick up some really neat and meaningful jewelry for moms. I’m not talking about expensive jewelry either. Most of these ideas can be purchased for well less than $50. On ETSY (I’m not an ETSY affiliate, simply an ETSY addict!) for example, you can get jewelry customized for the special mom in your life. Here are a few ideas that I know I would absolutely love (therefore I’m guessing my fellow moms would love them as well):
ETSY
If you are ordering from ETSY.com, you’ll want to plan ahead (especially around holidays) and give the shops a couple of weeks to complete your order. I’m not an ETSY affiliate, so I cannot show the pictures of the gift suggestions on this post, but in the paragraphs below are links to ideas I absolutely loved!
I’m a big fan of necklaces, and I think this personalized teardrop necklace is so cool and trendy right now. If you want a necklace that has the names of the kids on it, then this necklace is a great way to go.
If the mom in your life is more of a bracelet person, this Morse Code bracelet is beyond cool and very subtle. And this Scarf Bracelet is also really neat as well.
Here are a few options available on Amazon if you are on a shorter on time schedule:
Moms will love any of these choices. They are all so cute and trendy, really, you can’t go wrong with any these. And most of these are easily personalized. I have a couple of necklaces with my babies’ names on them and they are my go-to jewelry most days. They make me happy every time I put them on.
Gift Idea #6: Airpods Wireless Headphones
My husband got me these last summer. And I had seen other people with these headphones and thought, what’s the big deal!? I was skeptical! But let me tell you, these are one of my most prized possessions! I absolutely love them. To be able to stick them in and listen to whatever I want and walk all over the house without a phone in my hand is amazing! AND – they work really well during phone calls too. So I can totally be making dinner and chatting with someone at the same time. I also use them in the car for hands free talking when I’m driving.
Mine
Here’s the link to the ones I have. And you need a case too – to keep them nice and to make them easy to take along with you using the hook!
Gift Idea #7: Amazon Show
I have an Amazon Show on my kitchen counter. And when I say this thing is crazy useful, I truly mean it. It answers questions and can pull up cooking videos on the spot. She has timers and reminders. Echo will store a few pictures so it gives me a fun picture slide show of my kids. You can use it like Facetime and call other people with an Amazon Show and essentially “Facetime” with them. And my favorite feature — you can watch movies and shows on it. You can watch Hulu and Amazon Prime streaming services through it! I can make dinner and listen and watch my favorite shows! And all the movies we have in our Amazon Library. Somehow unloading the dishwasher isn’t so bad if you are watching “You’ve Got Mail.” Trust me!
There are all kinds of sizes and prices for these! The little ones are extremely reasonable at just $49!

Thank you for giving me the idea to give a potted plant to my mother that she can take care of and provide her with companionship even if most of her kids are away. My annual schedule doesn’t allow me to be with her on special occasions, so giving her another living creature might be a good substitute. Also, I’m thinking of looking for a custom wooden plaque manufacturer so we can engrave the words ‘best mom ever’ on a piece of wood that she can hang on her bedroom walls.
Thank you!
