These are perfect Christmas gifts for your kids to make for the family. And did I mention these are CHEAP to make? Need I say more? Let’s dive in…
These really are a fantastic gift idea for family and friends from your kids. Or even from you! You could make coasters with bigger tiles! Trivets with big floor tile! You name it, you could put a picture on it! Use photos or drawings! You could use some fancy printed scrapbook paper and make designer magnets or coasters! Use your imagination and get crafting!
Items You Need:
- Tile squares (Size and shape are your choices!)
- Modge Podge (water-based glue and sealant in one)
- Magnets (If using as a magnet — if a coaster, skip this!)
- Paintbrush
- Photos printed on cardstock

I got the tile squares at Lowe’s and the rest of the supplies at Hobby Lobby. Here are some Amazon links if you want to see what you are working with or if you just want to order from there:
- Tile squares (These are $9.99 with free shipping — that’s about the best you could do on price!)
- Modge Podge (Actually an excellent price too, even with an in-store coupon this is an excellent price…)
- Magnets (This is BETTER than the price I paid WITH a coupon at the store, and it’s MORE magnets!)
- Paintbrush
- Photos printed on cardstock (You could do better on price at a craft store with coupon!)
TOOLS
- Hot glue gun or industrial glue like E600.
How To Make the Photo Magnets:
Here we go — let’s get these easy and adorable photo magnets made!
Step 1:

Wipe off the tiles to make sure there is no dust or debris. Let them dry. I just put mine on a large cutting board lined with paper towels so I could easily move the project as I needed to.
Step 2:
Prepare your pictures! Make sure your pictures cut to be just a tiny bit smaller than the surface area of the top of the tile. For best results, pictures should be printed on photo paper or cardstock. Regular paper bubbles and lifts. I used cardstock in these pictures. To get the pictures the exact size I needed, I used the free program Canva to size my pictures. I think PicMonkey is also free.
Step 3:

Brush on a think layer of Modge Podge onto the top of the tile, making sure you get the corners coated
Step 4:

Immediately lay your picture on top of the tile and gently smooth and stick on with your finger. Make sure every part of the picture is lying flat and there are no air bubbles.
Step 5:

Let the pictures now glued to the tiles dry for about 20 minutes.
Step 6:

Brush on the 2nd layer of Modge Podge, this time on top of the pictures. It may look a little milky and white but it will dry completely clear and glossy.

Step 7:

Let this dry for at least an hour. If you’ve missed any spots, go ahead and do a 2nd layer of the Modge Podge. (or just for good measure!!)
Step 8:
Let dry for several hours. I let it dry overnight.
Step 9:

Flip over and hot glue magnets on the back. Let dry for a day before hanging as magnets.
Finished Product!
