Movie date nights at home are a great way to enjoy time with your partner without having to worry about finding a sitter! I’ve got some great ideas for movie date nights at home coming your way!

Date nights are always super fun and welcome at our house! I love having a night to go out with my husband and enjoy just each other’s company. But sometimes it can be really hard (and expensive!) to find a babysitter. But don’t fear – not having a sitter doesn’t mean you can’t have a date night. You just have to get creative and have a date night at home! And one of my favorite at-home date nights is a movie date night! Movie date nights at home mean the comfort of your own couch and delicious food and no noisy people! I’ve got all the tips and tricks you need to make an amazing movie date night at home!
The Importance of Date Nights

Married couples and couples that have been together for a long time can get busy with life and forget to take time for each other. Date nights are really important for couples! Even better, a regular date night plan gives you something to look forward to each week or month. That time together gives you time to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company, while you aren’t having to worry about the house and the kids and the dog and the laundry, and… you see how the list goes on and on.
Try to schedule regular date nights with your partner to stay connected and enjoy each other’s company. Making time for yourselves as a couple is super important, and it can be really easy to overlook and forget. There will never be a perfect time to fit in date nights, so make sure you make time for them!
Branch Out
It doesn’t have to be at home movie night, it can be whatever you want. Home date ideas are nearly endless! A romantic evening at home could include all kinds of fun stuff! You could play video games together! Or board games! Even card games! How about a wine tasting night? Spa night could be super fun too! There are romantic date night ideas all over the place, you just have to get creative and do some searching. The important thing is you are spending time together and reading each other’s love languages!

Reasoning Behind At-Home Movie Date Night

An at-home movie date can be such a fun idea and it’s convenient too. During the pandemic, you couldn’t just up and go to the movies anyway, so we watched a lot of movies at home. I think everyone did! Home date night ideas became REALLY popular during the height of Covid, and face masks and quarantine. You had to find a way to have a special night at home!
And truly, an at-home date night is a nice way to connect and spend time with your partner and unwind and relax all at the same time. You are in your own home, in comfy chairs or couches, with blankets and snacks! It’s the perfect excuse to get comfy and cozy! What more could you want?!
We love a Friday night movie, but you do whatever works for you! It’s the beginning of the weekend and that’s always exciting and usually, rest and recharge are in order after a hectic week.
Nostalgia
I also love a movie date night at home for another reason! It’s totally nostalgic. I don’t know about you, but we watched a ton of movies when we first started to date (alllllll those years ago) and whenever we watch a good movie at home together it just takes me back to those first dates that were so sweet and fun and exciting! It’s like a walk down memory lane in the best way.
The Plan:

Movie List
First, I like to have a running movie list that we can look at ahead of time. No one wants to sit and flip through 20 previews deciding what to watch. Decide on your movie ahead of time so you can get straight to watching the movie! Don’t waste precious date time surfing through the million streaming services on overwhelm by the choices! What kinds of movies do you like to watch together? An action film? Romantic comedy? Star Wars kind of stuff? Scary movies?
It doesn’t have to be a movie – you could start a tv show you want to watch together or even find a stand-up comedy special. Sometimes we just end up watching a bunch of clips of YouTube videos. So long as you are enjoying time together, it doesn’t matter what the show or movie is.
Movie Marathon
Can’t decide on a movie? Who says it has to be just one movie? You can each pick one and watch two movies! (if you can stay awake for two!)
Do you happen to have the whole day to yourselves? Plan a movie marathon!!

The Menu

I like the treat of ordering in food for date night. And it’s ok if it arrives late or if you eat later than normal because it’s part of the movie date night! We will snack at dinnertime and then have our meal after the kids go to bed while we start the movie. Generally, we don’t usually go the romantic dinner route for movie date night. We just order up some fun foods and favorites.
You could totally plan your menu to match the movie theme if you really wanted to get into it! Italian food always works, or burgers, sandwiches, bistro food, etc. Even pizza is delicious when eaten on date night!!
TV Trays
We have TV tray tables we use for eating while we watch the movie. I’m not a fan of eating on the couch unless I’ve got a tv tray to use. (Unless it’s easy food like pizza!) We don’t have a coffee table. If you do, you could totally set it up as a dinner table!
Dessert
Make sure you order in dessert too! Or get some ice cream at the store. Date nights need dessert! Plus, sometimes I need the sugar hit to make it till the end of the movie. We both get sleepy sometimes. Mom and Dad life, am I right?!
Snacks
You must have popcorn and candy! What is a movie without popcorn and candy??!!
Cocktails
We also love to have a cocktail with our movie date too! Again, you could totally theme it to the movie, or you can just have your favorite. Have a glass of wine, a beer, a fancy cocktail, or whatever you feel like. It’s totally up to you! There is a lot of room to get crafty and creative with the cocktails!
Set the Scene

It’s important to add a little ambiance to the movie night! It’s date night after all. And it’s hard to enjoy date night if you have the constant threat of a toy avalanche or the threat of stepping on a Lego as you make a trip to the bathroom. Or a mountain of laundry piled on the loveseat staring you down! So, spend a little time setting the scene! Our TV is in our living room, and that’s where the entire family lives most of the time and it can get MESSY.
If I know we are doing date night, I like to tidy up the living room so it’s a pleasant space to be in. I have some electric candles on the mantle, so I like to dim the lights and light the candles and enjoy our space. I fluff all the pillows and really set the scene for a nice, relaxing, and romantic date night together.
Make sure you have plenty of pillows and comfy blankets, too! You want to be warm and cozy and comfy for your date night.
Change the location
Is it summertime? Could you have your date night outside with a projector and a fire pit? That could be a super fun way to put a fun spin on a date night during warmer months!
Appearance

The wardrobe is totally up to you. I like to be comfy for movie date night, but I don’t want to just look like a slob kabob in my ratty pajamas either. I try to keep it comfy and attractive all at the same time!
Game Night
If it’s a fun movie, you could always pair a game with it! A fun bingo game to go with the movie would be a great addition! There are a TON of pre-made bingo boards online that match movies – just google the movie you are watching and see if one doesn’t already exist! I think this is fun – but I enjoy it more with a movie I’ve already seen. I like to just experience the movie the first time I’m watching it. But if it’s something we have seen a bunch, a fun game can bring a new twist to an old favorite.
