Detailed List of Fun June Holidays and Festivities
May Day (May 1):
It’s the first day of May! Lots of places have dancing around the Maypole and a celebration of Spring and the month of May
Brothers and Sisters Day (May 2):
This is a great day for brothers and sisters to celebrate each other. Make a quick call, send a quick text, or make a card for your brothers or sisters!
National Kite Day (May 3):
It’s time to get a kite and go fly it! Find an open spot (and hopefully it’s windy!) and fly a kite with your family! You can get some really inexpensive kites on Amazon!
Star Wars Day (May 4):
May the Fourth Be With You. Have a fun day of talking like Yoda or watching some of the Star Wars movies!
Cinco de Mayo (May 5):
Lots of people think that this is Mexican Independence Day. It’s not, that’s September 16. Cinco de Mayo is actually just a day that Mexicans celebrate victory over France in the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War, on May 5, 1862. It’s also known as Battle of Puebla Day. It’s actually a minor holiday in Mexico, but in the US, Cinco de Mayo has grown into an extrememly popular holiday, celebrating Mexican culture and heritage.
National Nurses Day (May 6):
Thank as many nurses as you can. They have had a rough year and the words “thank you” aren’t remotely adequate!
Space Day (May 7):
What a fun day! Celebrate space travel, try some freeze dried food, and watch some space launches on YouTube!
No Socks Day (May 8):
This will thrill my youngest child. He thinks no socks is how it should always be! No socks today!
National Sleepover Day (May 9):
Time for a sleepover! We are too young for friend sleepovers at our house, so we might do a fun living room campout or a sleepover at Grandma’s! It’s something super fun to celebrate and have a little fun with the festivities. You could make a tent or fort in the living room!
Clean Up Your Room Day (May 10):
it’s a good day to clean up your room! Or clean up a room that’s bugging you! This is an awesome chance to get a little cleaning done! AND to make your kids clean their rooms!
Eat What Your Want Day (May 11)
Everyone gets to eat anything they want today! What a super fun day!
National Nutty Fudge Day (May 12):
Happy Nutty Fudge Day! Try out a recipe for fudge with nuts in it today! I love peanut butter fudge made with crunchy peanut butter! But you could also add pecans or walnuts to chocolate fudge and it would be so good!
National Apple Pie Day (May 13):
YUM! Make a pie, buy a pie, whichever way you decide to go, make sure you get some apple pie today! Here’s an awesome recipe for homemade apple pie.

National Chocolate Chip Day (May 15):
Have some chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and make some chocolate chip cookies today!
National Love a Tree Day (May 16):
Today would be a fun day to talk about how trees grow, their life cycles, why the leaves fall, etc. And then maybe go pick out a small tree at a local nursery and plant it! Last year we planted a grapefruit tree!
National Pack Rat Day (May 17):
If you are a pack rat, today is your day to be celebrated. And also your reminder to go clean something out and get rid of a few things! Here are some easy ways to declutter today!
National No Dirty Dishes Day (May 18):
I’m not sure if this means leaving no dirty dishes in the sink or making sure you make no dirty dishes. I’m going with the second and getting takeout for dinner! No dirty dishes allowed!!!
World Plant a Vegetable Garden Day (May 19):
Go and pick out some vegetable seeds or plants and let the kids plant their own small garden.
National Be a Millionaire Day (May 20):
It’d be a super fun day to pretend to be millionaires! What would a millionaire eat? Drink? What would they watch on TV? All day channel your inner millionaire! Or maybe it would be a good opportunity to talk about saving money and how to be a millionaire in the future!
National Pizza Party Day (May 21):
Pizza Night! How could it not be? It’s National Pizza Party Day!
National Maritime Day (May 22):
National Maritime Day celebrates the super-important maritime industry. This has been a holiday since 1933 when Congress declared it to commemorate the American Steamship Savannah’s first successful crossing of the Atlantic Ocean with a steam propulsion engine. It would be a fun day to watch some cruise ship videos and see how big all these big shipping tankers are!!
Lucky Penny Day (May 23):
Keep your eyes on the lookout today for lucky pennies in your path! Pick them up today, they could only bring good luck on Lucky Penny Day!
