March Family Night Ideas and Fun Activities List

Spring is on the way! A regular family fun night can be so much fun! And I love coming up with new ideas for each month! This is our March family night ideas and fun activities list!

February has flown by and here we are, in March! March is a big month this year! It has St Patrick’s Day AND Easter! We’ve got so many fun March activities to share, I can hardly wait! This is such a fun time of year, and I love to enjoy watching the outdoors come back to life after a long winter. I’ve compiled a whole bunch of ways to spend time together as a family with all kinds of activities for March!

Importance of Family Time

A happy family is always super important to me and the value of family time cannot be overstated. Regular family nights as well as general family time are really important and strengthen your family bond. It’s a good idea to spend time together with the entire family regularly because it’s key to the development of your kids, and it boosts your general well-being also! It’s a fundamental part of offering emotional support, sharing triumphs, and navigating through challenges.

When To Have Family Night

Any night is fine for family night. You’ll want to do it on a night when there are no other activities planned. It is supposed to be a fun night, not something you stress about fitting into the schedules. Make the time and do the family nights regularly. It’s one of the best things in life, and you don’t want to miss it! I think Friday night is kind of fun to do them on so we don’t have to worry about homework or it being a school night. Try out some different times and see what works best for your family.

Conversation Starters:

These are so much fun. Use them all month long! You can use the conversation starters regularly at the dinner table with your family members or even on a longer car ride. Have fun with it and play along too! It’s truly a great way to get the conversation flowing!

Here’s March’s conversation starters:

March 1 is National Peanut Butter Day. Do you like Peanut Butter? And if so, what’s your favorite way to eat it?
What’s your favorite food that’s the color green?
March 15 is National Napping Day. Do you like to take naps? Why or why not?
March 12 is Plant a Seed Day. Would you want to have a flower garden or a vegetable garden?
Lots of things are the color green during March. What’s your favorite color, and why?
If you could make up your own holiday, what would it be?
How would you try to catch a leprechaun? They are tricky!
The Eiffel Tower in Paris opened in March of 1889. If you could go to Paris, would you go to the top of it?
The weather will be warming up soon. What’s your favorite thing about warm weather?
March 23 is National Chip and Dip day. What’s your favorite chip and dip?
March 2 was Dr. Seuss’s birthday. What’s your favorite Dr. Seuss Book?
March 20 is Big Bird’s birthday. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character, and why?
If you were a leprechaun, what would you do to be mischievous?
What would you do if you found a pot of gold? Would you spend the money? Or save it?
If you could only eat one food for every meal for a week, what would you pick, and why?
March 22 is National Goof Off Day. What’s your favorite way to goof off?
The first day of Spring is 20th. Do you like the spring? Why or why not?
Name as many things as you can that are green.
In the spring a lot of people do spring cleaning. What’s your favorite thing to clean? Least favorite thing?

Printable Cards

If you sign up for the free March guide, there are printable cards you can print out. I love to print them on cardstock, cut them out, fold them up, and put them in a jar. Then each night at dinner you can draw a conversation starter and everyone gets to answer the question each day. You can modify it for little kids or big kids as best suits your family’s needs.

Game Night Ideas

Family Game Night is such a fun way to connect! Here’s a list of games we think are great fun with March and Spring Themes! Some of these will require a little more work and prep than a regular board game, but so much fun for the season. There are truly so many fun ideas and fun games out there to explore! Search Google/Pinterest for the idea for exact instructions! We’ve compiled a list of the treasures that we consider to be a fun game.

Some families like board games while others like video games. Some families are puzzle families while others are not! Do whatever fits you and your family’s personality the best! You can even play a bunch of different games for your game night. Make sure to pick games that are appropriate to the ages and number of players you have on hand.

Family Theme Nights:

This is one of my favorite ideas. Family theme night is so much fun. Here’s what you do:

Pick a theme and go with it for a fun family night! There’s one for each week in March plus extras!! Some of these fun night ideas are more involved than others. The sky is the limit, so go for it and have some fun. (PS – As a side effect – trying some of these new ideas might even help your child expand their diet and try new foods!)

Green Dinner

Green Dinner! Or Breakfast! Pick a meal and make all the food green! It doesn’t just have to be green vegetables! Use food coloring to make green cookies, green pancakes, green eggs, green cupcakes! You could even make spaghetti noodles green! Just put some food coloring in the boiling water!

Catch a Leprechaun Night

March is full of Leprechauns causing mischief. For several days leading up to this night, do something mischievous around the house and blame it on the Leprechaun that must have been in your house. Then take an evening to make Leprechaun traps. Everyone makes their own, and then you leave them out overnight to “catch” the leprechaun. Make sure you set off everyone’s trap overnight, but sadly, no one actually catches the elusive Leprechaun. :o) (For ideas, go to Pinterest or Google and search for “Leprechaun Trap Ideas”

March Madness

For the sports-loving family, the NCAA Basketball Tournaments start on March 18 and run through Monday, April 5. Have a night of basketball with a game on TV and have all foods for dinner that you’d get at a basketball arena. Think hot dogs, nachos, and POPCORN! Of course! If your kids are old enough, have everyone fill out a bracket so you can follow along. If your kids are younger, play a fun basketball memory game (look on Pinterest for printables!). And… if you are really feeling it, have a family game of basketball!

Start a Garden Night

Order some seeds and let the kids plant them in little paper cups. When the seeds take off, make a place in the yard for a small garden (or in a pot on the porch!) and let the kids watch their gardens grow. You could read a book about gardening and growing plants during dinner and then everyone chooses what they want to plant!

National Mom and Pop Business Owner’s Day

March 29 is National Mom and Pop Business Owner’s Day. Pick a restaurant that’s a Mom and Pop shop and order dinner from there or go to dinner there, depending on your state’s current Covid guidelines. Explain to the kids why you want to buy at a local place instead of a chain for that day, and also help a mom and pop shop along the way!

Waffle Bar Night!

March 25 is International Waffle Day. So it’s got to be Waffles for dinner or breakfast this day. It’s a Thursday this year, so I’m thinking dinner. Have a waffle station set up and everyone gets to pick what they want in and on their waffles. Have some fruit, candy and fun syrups! Make a savory waffle for dinner and sweet waffles later for dessert!

Easter Bunny House

Think Gingerbread house… but for Easter Bunnies! Have a night where everyone makes an Easter Bunny House craft and display them all month for Easter! Remember, Easter is April 4, so it’s around the corner. Search on Pinterst for ideas and get some pastel fun Easter candies for decorations! Pro-Tip — Hot glue the graham crackers into a house form before you start, and make life easier on everyone. The house isn’t edible anymore at that point, BUT, it also won’t come apart!

Easter Egg Dye Night

Easter is coming up on April 4! Take an evening to dye eggs together as a family! There are such cool kits you can order these days! And I’ve got my eye on an egg spinner I saw on Amazon that spins the egg while you color it with markers! Get out everyone’s Easter baskets so they can proudly display their eggs!
