Family nights and time together are so important, and Supermom Shuffle has prepared a June Family Night Ideas and Fun Activities List to help you get started for some fun in the month of June!

It’s June!!!! Happy beginning of Summer! I just love summer! Warm weather (but not miserably hot yet!), school is out, summer activities have started and summer food is abundant! It’s time for grilling out for dinner and longer days with lots of sunlight as well. This month’s Family Time section is full of all kinds of fun ideas, activities, movies, conversations and more! Summertime is such a fun time and I’m super excited to get started making some memories this summer! Happy June! And as always, Just Keep Shuffling!!!

Importance of Family Time

A happy family is always super important to me and the value of family time cannot be overstated. Regular family nights as well as general family time are really important and strengthen your family bond. It’s a good idea to spend time together with the entire family regularly because it’s key to the development of your kids, and it boosts your general well-being also! It’s a fundamental part of offering emotional support, sharing triumphs, and navigating through challenges.

What To Expect?

When To Have Family Night

Any night is fine for family night. You’ll want to do it on a night when there are no other activities planned. It is supposed to be a fun night, not something you stress about fitting into the schedules. Make the time and do the family nights regularly. It’s one of the best things in life, and you don’t want to miss it! I think Friday night is kind of fun to do them on so we don’t have to worry about homework or it being a school night. Try out some different times and see what works best for your family.

June Family Night Guide

Conversation Starters:

Use these for the dinner table or a longer car ride. Have fun with it and play along too! There are also cards to follow if you want to cut them out and put them in a jar and pick one each day!

June Converstation Starters:

June 5 is National Hot Air Balloon Day. Would you want to go on a hot air balloon ride? Why or why not?

June 8 is Best Friends Day. Who is your very best friend and why?
June 15 is National Nature Photography Day. What’s your favorite thing to take pictures of our in nature?
June 16 is National Fresh Veggies Day. What’s your most favorite vegetable? What’s your least favorite vegetable?
June 18 is International Picnic Day. If you could go on a picnic anywhere in the world today, where would you go? And why?
What’s your favorite food to take on a picnic?
In June we celebrate Father’s Day. What’s your favorite thing about your Dad?
June 21 is National Seashell Day. Do you like looking for seashells by the ocean? Why or why not?

June 10 is National Iced Tea Day. What’s your favorite summer drink?

Printable Cards

If you sign up for the free March guide, there are printable cards you can print out. I love to print them on cardstock, cut them out, fold them up, and put them in a jar. Then each night at dinner you can draw a conversation starter and everyone gets to answer the question each day. You can modify it for little kids or big kids as best suits your family’s needs.

Family Theme Nights:

This is one of my favorite ideas. Family theme night is so much fun. Here’s what you do:

Pick a theme and go with it for a fun family night! There’s one for each week in February plus extras!! Some of these fun night ideas are more involved than others. The sky is the limit, so go for it and have some fun. (PS – As a side effect – trying some of these new ideas might even help your child expand their diet and try new foods!)

Dad’s Night

Father’s Day is June 20th. Make a night (and day!) all about Dad and do anything he wants to do. His favorite dinner. His favorite family movie. It’s all about dad today! Dads work hard for their families and today is the day to celebrate that! Let Dad pick a dessert that’s his favorite too. Make some cards and tell Dad how much he’s loved!

Farmer’s Market Night

I love this one!!! During the day, go to the local farmer’s market and get fresh veggies, fruit, and anything you need for dinner. The rule is, you have to get everything for dinner there. That’s the challenge! Then take your findings home and make a delicious dinner together. Kids will be way more likely to at least try new foods if they get to help pick it out and prepare it!

Ice Cream Night

There are several ice cream holidays in June! And the coming months as well!! Order up a real ice cream maker and have a blast creating different flavors and combos for desserts this summer. Make some home made ice cream and then create a toppings bar where everyone can make their own sundaes! Then go outside and enjoy the evening or watch a family favorite movie. Have fun with the flavors and look up fun recipes!!

Seashell Craft Night

If the location is a possibility, go on a seashell hunt and then bring home your shells to work on some crafts. If not, order up or go buy some seashells in bulk (super easy and cheap!) from the craft store and look up some seashell craft projects on Pinterest. There are SO many different ideas that are so fun to make! I think my favorites are the wind chimes!

Beach Night

No trip to the beach in sight this summer? No problem. Have a beach night in the back yard! Get a misting fan and let it create a warm tropical breeze. Then get a small baby pool and fill it with some playground sand from the local hardware store. Everyone can have fun sitting with their feet in the sand and playing in the sand on beach night! Make some fruity family friendly drinks and have a tropical menu tonight!

Grill Out Night

All the food for tonight has to be made outside on the grill! Including dessert! Anything goes! Make burgers on the grill, pizza, chicken, kebobs… the list is long of possibilities! There are a ton of desserts you can make on the grill as well! Check out Pinterest (and your June Supermom Cookbook!) for all kinds of possibilities!

Kid of the Night

Throw all the kids names in a hat and draw a name each week for Kid of the Night! Draw the names that morning and then let the kid that gets picked choose everything for the evening. Menu, entertainment, movie selection, etc. That kid gets to pick the entire evening. And then the next week (or next night, etc) pick another kid’s name and do the same thing till every kid has had a chance to have Kid of the Night

Hot Air Balloon Night

Make hot air balloon crafts and watch some YouTube videos about Hot Air Balloons. Check and see if there are any local hot air balloon festivals that could coincide with this fun night. Bonus points — Watch an oldie but a goodie movie “Alvin and The Chipmunks The Chipmunk Adventure” where they go on a hot air balloon race around the world! (that’s from MY childhood!!! Oh how I loved that movie!!)
