Benefits of a Clean Home
Having a clean and organized entire home is like a literal breath of fresh air for me. Coming home to a neat and tidy space is a gift to myself and it just lets my mind be at ease and my soul to be comforted. I look at it as self-care for myself when I take the time to clean up and make sure my house stays in order. Cleaning my home is a great way for me to destress and I get a lot of good creative thinking done while I clean. I do good work, with a list of cleaning tasks and a simple printable Spring cleaning checklist.
Additionally, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America indicates that the physical activity of cleaning coupled with the end result of a cleaner home helps reduce stress, feelings of anxiety, and depressive symptoms.8 Cleaning can also reduce fatigue and improve concentration.

I love to listen to an audio book, podcast, or watch my favorite rerun show while I clean. It keeps me entertained while I work and I’m happy to keep on going if it means I get to listen to more of my book.
Techniques
There are tons of videos these days on cleaning techniques if you need any help. There are tons of Tik Tok videos, Instagram Reels and YouTube channels that are devoted to cleaning and organizing and spring-cleaning checklist.
Time Planning
This checklist is going to take a couple of hours per room. This is a simple Spring cleaning checklist. You may find more projects as you go, and simply add those on to your list and keep going. Don’t get distracted and derailed as you go! We want to make good progress in our Spring cleaning process!
Your Ultimate Free Spring Cleaning Guide
Now it’s time to get down to it! Let’s get cleaning!! This is not a simple spring cleaning list. It’s actually quite detailed. BUT — at the end of the spring cleaning checklist there are blank pages, so you can totally create your own list if needed or desired! I want you to have the cleaning solution that works for you and helps you best! Let’s start room by room and we’ll break it down and give explanations for the tasks.
Kitchen & Dining Room
The kitchen is our landing zone when we come in each day, and therefore it accumulates a lot of clutter. I have to try to keep on top of it all the time!
- Cabinets & Drawers: Empty, wipe down inside and out, replace liner if needed. Also wipe down the cabinet handles. It’s also a great time to re-organize the contents of the cabinets as well. Don’t forget to clean under the kitchen sink and double-check for any leaks.
- Appliances: Deep clean the oven (or use the self-cleaning oven setting if possible), refrigerator (inside and out), microwave, and dishwasher. Also move the appliances out and clean behind and underneath them.
- Pantry: Declutter, check expiration dates, and organize. Don’t forget your spices too!
- Countertops & Sink: Declutter, scrub, and disinfect.
- Floors: Sweep and mop. Deep clean the grout if you have tile.
- Refrigerator: Clean out refrigerator and freezer and defrost freezer if needed
- Light Fixtures: Clean light fixtures and dust all ceiling fans in the room.
- Air Returns: Clean and dust any air returns in each room.
Bathrooms
- Toilets, Tubs, & Sinks: Disinfect and scrub.
- Mirrors & Windows: Clean with a streak-free cleaner.
- Cabinets: Declutter and wipe down.
- Floors: Sweep and mop. Clean any tile grout. The bathroom floor is nasty and I like to steam clean it after I’ve done all the other cleaning!
- Shower Curtains & Mats: Wash or replace.
- Linen Closet: Organize and clean out.
Bedrooms
- Closets: Declutter and organize. Donate what you no longer need.
- Bedding: Wash all bedding, including pillows and comforters.
- Furniture: Dust and polish.
- Floors: Vacuum, including under the bed.
- Mattress: Wash mattress covers, vacuum matress, and flip or rotate your mattress.
Living Room and Living Areas and Family Room
- Dust & Clean Surfaces: Coffee tables, bookshelves, and electronics.
- Upholstery: Vacuum sofas and chairs. Wash throws and pillows. If necessary clean any fabric sofas and chairs. I have a carpet cleaner with a furniture attachment that I love.
- Windows & Curtains: Clean windows and launder curtains.
- Floors: Vacuum carpets and rugs, mop hard surfaces.
Home Office
This is my area of the house where I spend the majority of my time during the days. A neat and tidy office is important to me and something that I highly value.
- Desk Area: Declutter and organize. Wipe down surfaces. Dust any shelves and trinkets.
- Electronics: Dust and clean computer screens, computer keyboards, and other devices.
- Paperwork: Shred outdated documents, file important ones.
Laundry Room
At my house this is the hardest working room of the house! I try to take good care of it!!
- Washing Machine: Run cleaning cycle, wipe down outside and inside, wipe down and clean all seals.
- Dryer: Clean dryer vent as well as any tubing that runs to the outside.
- Clean behind the washer and dryer.
Entryway and Hallways
- Clean floors
- Clean out any closets
Garage and Outdoor Areas
- Garage: Declutter and Tidy up garage areas
- Front Porch: Sweep and wipe down any furniture
- Back Porch: Sweep and wipe down any furniture
Miscellaneous
- Clean walls and clean baseboards in entire house.
- Wash windows, both inside and outside.
- Wipe down all light switches
- Dust and clean any ceiling fan in each room
- Check for burned out light bulbs.
- Change the air filters
- Change out smoke detector batteries and make sure smoke detectors are still in date and not out of service time.
- Tidy up an attic and basement spaces
- Polish wood furniture
