Book Review – Knockemout Series by Lucy Score
Lucy Score was a new author to me, though she’s been writing hit books for years now! I started with her Knockemout series and I can’t say enough wonderful things about these books – as you’ll see in my “Book Review – Knockemout Series by Lucy Score.”
I love reading and I LOVE a good romance series. There’s just such a cozy feeling to know that you are reading a book you love with characters you adore, and knowing that there are more books in a series to come. It just makes my heart so happy! I had seen several recommendations for Lucy Score books on Instagram and TikTok and this particular series had been on my “To Be Read” list for a while now. And it was so fantastic, that all the rest of Lucy Score’s books are now on my “To Be Read” list! I’ve definitely added Lucy Score to my list of “Upcoming Releases” watch! She’s now an automatic “BUY” when new releases come out. Somehow Lucy Score makes small-town romances meet romantic suspense in the same story.

Rating Warning
These books are wonderful and I adored them. But fair warning – they are fiesty and STEAMY. I’m no prude, but these books are on the top end of my spicy romance tolerance… if you know what I mean. They are no “Fifty Shades of Gray”, but they are frisky for sure. Also, the language is a LOT. I don’t want to deter you, but I did want to give a fair warning! Several foul-mouthed characters and a LOT of sex. You’ve been warned! LOL!

Books in the Knockemout Series by Lucy Score
Book 1: “Things We Never Got Over”
“Things We Never Got Over” takes place in the small town of Knockemout, Virginia. The story follows the journey of Knox Morgan, a gruff, bearded loner who has dedicated his life to running the family bar (and he’s one of the town barbers, too!) and keeping out of trouble, and Naomi Witt, a runaway bride who arrives in town looking to escape her controlled life and a past full of secrets.
When Naomi’s estranged evil twin sister leaves her with an unexpected niece to take care of (and steals Naomi’s car!), Naomi finds herself in a world of trouble. Bad-boy barber Knox, despite his initial reluctance and desire to steer clear of the chaos (he likes his solitary life), finds himself drawn into Naomi’s life, becoming her unexpected protector and ally. As they navigate the challenges of caring for a child, dealing with Naomi’s past, and the small-town dynamics of Knockemout, their initial mistrust and antagonism slowly evolve into a deep, passionate love that neither saw coming.
This book goes deep into the complexities of family ties (Like Naomi having to orchestrate the rescue of her estranged twin!), the scars left by past traumas, and the healing power of love. Through witty dialogue, steamy romance, and compelling character development, Lucy Score crafts a story that is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching, highlighting the idea that sometimes, the things we avoid the most (The things we never got over…) are the very things we need to confront to find our true selves and happiness.
What I Loved About This Book:
- The dialogue is quick and funny.
- The names of the chapters are hysterical.
- Waylon the basset hound
- Waylay’s character, my word I LOVED her.
- The mystery arc of the story
- The poker game.
- The friend group.
- Lucy.
- The three best friend dynamic, friends since before high school.
Book 2: “Things We Hide From The Light“
This is the second book in the Knockemout series.
“Things We Hide From The Light” continues the exploration of love, secrets, and community in the small town of Knockemout, Virginia. This book focuses on Nash Morgan, Knox’s law-enforcement brother, and smart-mouthed Lina Solavita, a newcomer with a mysterious past who recently settled in town.
Nash Morgan is known for his charm, good looks, and dedication to his job as a police officer. He’s the more approachable and smooth-talking Morgan brother, with a natural ability to keep peace in the town. Lina, on the other hand, is a woman with a bunch of secrets that she refuses to discuss and a job that she doesn’t disclose.
Lina moves in next door to Nash, leading to instant attraction and tension. Nash, with his protective instincts, finds himself drawn to Lina, wanting to help and protect her from trouble. Lina, fiercely independent and wary of trusting anyone, struggles with her growing feelings for Nash.
As their relationship deepens, Nash and Lina must navigate the challenges of their professions and the unsolved case between them… all while falling in love under stressful conditions.
“Things We Hide From The Light” is rich with emotional depth, suspense, and the warmth of community spirit that defines Knockemout. Lucy Score masterfully intertwines romance and danger, creating a narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats while rooting for Nash and Lina’s love to overcome the darkness of the past. The novel is a testament to the healing power of love and the strength found in vulnerability, making it a compelling read for fans of contemporary romance with a twist of suspense.
What I Loved About This Book:

- The skydiving
- Again, the names of the chapters are just great.
- The witty dialogue.
- Anytime Knox is in a scene.
- The ladies that drop things so Nash has to pick them up, therefore letting them check out his butt.
- Lucy.
- Small-town life.
Book 3: “Things We Left Behind”
Finally, we get Lucian and Sloane’s story in the third installment of this series. From the first time they interacted in the first book, I immediately could not wait for their turn for their story.
The story follows Lucian Rollins, a powerful businessman driven by vengeance, and Sloane Walton, a small-town librarian seeking justice. They are connected by a dark secret from their past that has fueled their dislike for each other for twenty years. Despite their antagonism, a steamy one-night stand turns their world upside down. Even though the last thing Lucian wants is to make a commitment, he’s starting to waver on his beliefs.
As their desires clash with their conflicting goals, particularly Sloane’s desire for a family and Lucian’s fear of commitment, they grapple with their feelings and a past that keeps pulling them back. Danger emerges, forcing Lucian to confront his fear of losing Sloane. They have to work together to solve the mystery that’s run the entire three books. Ultimately, the novel explores themes of overcoming the past, finding love in unexpected places, and the importance of vulnerability.
What I Loved About This Book:
- I’ll say it one more time, the dialogue is fantastic. The witty banter is fabulous.
- Sloane yelling at the mobster, then Lucian’s mother.
- Meow Meow.
- Nolan working for Lucian.
- The real person behind all the crime.
- Having a life chat as you have a fist fight.
- Lucian climbing the cherry blossom tree into Sloane’s childhood bedroom.
- The Period Cramp Simulator.
Reading Bonus(es!)
Each book has an epilogue in the book. But if you go to Lucy Score’s website, there are BONUS epilogues to go with each book and they are fantastic as well. They really let you see how things worked out years down the road. They gave me the warm fuzzies for sure.
All in all, I flipping adored these books and I could not recommend them enough. They are an absolute delight and I cannot wait to read more of Lucy Score’s work.

Wrap-Up – Book Review – Knockemout Series by Lucy Score
This trilogy of books has my heart, and I just adored them. I loved each book more than the last. I’m in the middle of one of Lucy’s standalone novels now and it’s proving to be just as good as the series so far! It’s no secret that I love romance novels. And I love it when I find sweet stories like these that I can recommend to all my readers! I can’t wait to hear what you think about this book series.
